Prize for anyone who knows the meanings of these silly acronyms which fill my brain and documentation while I work... TBI PPH SBAR GVHD VRE CSA MUD MONA CDB OU FK506 CMP
TBI = throttle body injection :) or traumatic brain injury? PPH = parts per hundred (jk) SBAR=psssh, easy. SITUATION, BACKGROUND, ASSESSMENT, RECOMMENDATION. GVHD= no idea MUD = Matched Unrelated Donor MONA = Morphine, Oxygen, Nitroglycerin, Aspirin CDB = Charlie Daniels Band OU = oregon university :) CMP = call my phone texting lingo :)
oohh...i know a few! TBI: total body irradiation ("one of the medicines that helps your body get ready to receive your new blood. a special light destroys the old cells inside your bone (called bone marrow) to make room for the new, healthy cells to move in...") GVHD: graft versus host disease i hear about CSA and VRE, don't know what they stand for. CSA's a med, VRE's a virus/infection...i don't know more!
not sure who wrote this last comment, but it sounds like miss carin, the amazing bmt child life specialist! who would have such a nice way to describe TBI?!
well, my brain is flooded with PUD, IBS, SBO, etc right now but heres my best shot VRE - vancomycin resistant enterococucus CMp: complete metabolic panel PPH: primary pulmonary hyptertension TBI: traumatic brain injury SBAR: how to communicate a problem to an MD - situation, background, assessment, and my favorite part: making a recommendation or better yet telling a resident what you want them to do OU: i think that means put the gtts in both eyes and MONA is obvious a recent way to teach nursing students about what to do in case of an acute MI CSA: culture, sensitivity, antigen?
thanks gretch - this is actually kind of fun - i have no idea what the others are. talk to you later
ooh... because some people actually care! here are the answers :)
TBI: total body irradiation PPH: abbrev. for platelets SBAR: situation, background, assessment, recommendation GVHD: graft versus host disease VRE: vancomycin resistant enterococcus CSA: abbrev. for cyclosporin MUD: matched unrelated donor MONA: morphine, oxygen, nitro, asprin CDB: coughing and deep breathing OU: not sure... but it means both eyes FK506: abbrev. for tacrolimus CMP: complete metabolic panel
